Where does BMX racing go after the Olympics? How can we get BMX racing as a "mainstream" sport?
Ask parents around your neighborhood if they know about BMX racing. If it is like my neighborhood, they won't have a clue unless your kids hang out with their kids. BMX racing is usually associated with BMX street, vert, or dirt. All the tricks are great TV, and its good for the overall sport of BMX, but its not racing and where are the Motos in street, vert or dirt?
Track owners should be provided tools and support from the main sanctions to get the local community involved. Word of mouth doesn't seem to work. The overall moto count this year is way down and its definitely the economy, gas and the cost of the sport. If more people got involved would it be less on a family?
NBC's coverage of BMX Racing in the Olympics was terrible. I learned more about the Chinese Ping Pong program than I learned about the USA BMX Racing team.
Discuss how to improve the future of BMX here.
